Oscar Diaz

Jose and Sons & Cortez Seafood + Cocktail | Raleigh, NC

Since arriving to Raleigh in 2011, Oscar has been at the helm of two acclaimed restaurants in its vibrant and growing culinary scene. Oscar moved to North Carolina on a whim, having begun his culinary career working through the ranks in Michelin-starred French restaurant Alize in Las Vegas and Los Angeles’  renowned Patina at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Shortly thereafter, he teamed with business partner Charlie Ibarra to open Jose and Sons – a genre-bending concept that melds the duo’s Mexican roots with local Southern inspirations. In 2017, Oscar developed a contemporary, diversely flavored menu celebrating the bounty of locally caught seafood for the pair’s new concept, Cortez Seafood + Cocktail.

The two restaurants are indicative of a traveling soul, conveying his story through the lens of a first-generation American. The restaurants have resulted in Oscar’s fare being featured in The New York Times, Time magazine, USA Today's 10 Best and the Food Network. In 2019, Oscar received his first semifinalist nomination for the James Beard Best Chef: Southeast award.
