A Virginia native and adopted son of North Carolina, Craig got his culinary start at CanCan Restaurant in Richmond with Chris Ripp, Joe DePaola and Jimmy Sneed. Those experiences shaped an appreciation of developing hospitality concepts and menus based in seafood and technique.
In 2009, Craig opened Surf House Oyster Bar and Surf Camp in Carolina Beach. The contemporary, coastal restaurant has garnered recognition from Our State, Garden & Gun and Coastal Living. Craig has received an Agrarian Stewardship Award for his work with local farms and fishermen. The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce named him 2018 Entrepreneur of the Year.
His latest project – creating Coastal South Hospitality Group – has him on the cusp of a burgeoning restaurant empire. He recently opened The Southerly Biscuit & Pie – a quick-service craft bakery with sandwiches, classic Southern staples and confections. With more projects in the queue, Craig is a North Carolina restaurateur to keep an eye on in the years ahead.
